I'm back! Just in time! Looks like the Sierra Madre City Council will be making its decision for a new City Manager tonight under a fool moon. Let hope there are no werewolves present.
Looks like the meeting has been postponed until Wednesday accorning to The Editors Corner.

Unfulfilled
Looks like the City of Sierra madre is still unfulfilled. Last night Council took no action as reports by the PSN.
SIERRA MADRE - The City Council did not make a decision on its top executive position late Tuesday night, despite reports that the assistant to the Glendale city manager is in negotiations for the job.
"No reportable action was taken in closed session," City Attorney Sandra Levin wrote in an e-mail sent at 11:39 p.m. Tuesday. "The public session status report on the recruitment was that it is still in process."
Ok now I am really "gone". See post below....

Missing Out?

I hope not. I am worried that I may miss the big announcement at City Hall as I am leaving town for several days. Oh well I am sure there will be lots to "gab" about when I return.
Cheers!

Hmmmm
Looks like the Council is negotiating with another chick!
...Elaine Aguilar, who serves as an assistant to Glendale City Manager Jim Starbird, was offered the city manager position in Sierra Madre, but had not formally accepted as of Friday, Glendale City Councilman Bob Yousefian confirmed. ...
Problem is, my sources tell me she is not exactly stellar. Lets hope she has shpaed up since those days.

Bloggers take on Cities
The LA Times has taken notice of some local bloggers.
...Some websites are watchdogs, others are just scurrilous, but their influence on the cities they cover is growing...
I guess the politicians don't like us very much....Some are anonymous, others are scurrilous and, on occasion, possibly libelous. And to local politicians, most are a royal pain in the tuchis...
Our own FC Publius is quote extensively (YEA)!
...We want our words to stand on our own, and with anonymity, the only way someone can judge us is by what we write...
And given credit for uncovering the mess in Poormona and our MIA Assemblywoman.

Fact or Fiction?
My latest source tell me that our kewpie Police Chief is about to depart. So much for "Chicks in Charge", maybe she doesn't like the idea of a woman for a boss. Negotiations are taking place with a Captain at another foothill agency, salary too low in the SM. No kidding! So what have you heard?
So is it me, or does it seems like this City just can't hang onto its senior staff for very long. Wonder why?

Chicks in Charge
Well from the latest rumor it looks like our fair foothill village will finally have a City Manager. I like the idea of having a woman for Mayor and City Manager. It will negate some of that testosterone that builds up at the Council Meetings.
Enid and Katie, running the City. Sorta like having a woman for President AND Vice President!

Another Election?

As we all know the Police Department wants a raise (don't we all). They are the lowest paid agency in the SGV.
...The Sierra Madre Police Officers Association passed around a petition that garnered 1,767 signatures - more than the required 25 percent of the cities almost 7,500 registered voters, according to City Clerk Nancy Sue Shollenberger...
My only question is, did all those people who signed that petition know where the money for the raise was coming from? Unless there is a tax, or something is done to increase revenues, basically, you have to cut other services. Giving to Peter to pay Paul.
So whats the plan? Maybe the new City Manager can figure it out.

Mayor makes Announcement
Mayor Enid Joffe makes an announcement reagrding the new City Manager for our fair city.
Another Clue Please!
The FC is reporting that an "inside source" says the next City Manager candidate for Sierra Madre has also worked in the SGV. Gee, well that narrows it down.
Can't we have another clue?

Local News
The blogshere is a wealth of information. I particulary like FC, Eye Level Pasadena, Claremont Insider, well look at my links, for local information and news. I noted there were at least 7 Sierra Madre Blogs but once the election was complete, most of those dropped of the blogsphere. So did that bird cage liner I used to get weekly in my mailbox!
Still posting are the Madruh, inSierraMadre, Sierra Madre News, and of course Dirty boy Jim. I guess Hail Hamilton has a blog, but from what I read, its really not worth mentioning.
So where do you get your news, PSN, LA Times, or do you click on your favorite link to find news specific to your town fast?

Help Wanted - City Manager
Looks like someone on the Council finally googled Brad Baxter.
...In a surprise move, the City Council on Tuesday did not announce its pick for city manager - expected to be former Irwindale top executive Bradley Baxter...
Read the Star News story here.

Yo Joe!
Thanks to the FC and inSierraMadre for reporting the news. The signatures for the recall were due yesterday, and looky, looky, well there were not enough!
Maybe some of the realities of being a broke small town have hit, and now that we have other problems looming, people are realizing we need competent council members not blabber mouths to represent us.

Welcome, I think.
Looks like according to Councilperson Watts and the SGV Tribune we have a new CM. Too bad they couldn't get anyone a little more intelligent to interview. Since the the information in the paper was vague and sketchy, I did a little digging myself. I hope the Council googled him and had him explain some of these issues before they made the offer. This one seems a little intense, especially the May 11, 2006 post.
And those Yes on V bozo's are gonna love this one!
"It is of incredible significance," Rio Vista City Manager Brad Baxter said. "It's the wave of the future as the baby boomers retire. You're going to see more and more active-adult communities."
The impact of such development is widespread, he added.
"Not only do we get the tax base from the houses, but there's an increased demand for services," Baxter said. "It spurred 27 community projects that are on the drawing board. There's a big need for medical and other services."
First wave of growth....
So when did the guy actually work in Irwindale, Rialto.....?
The other question is, did a council member comment to the press on a "Closed Session" item?

Fire Safe Council NOTICE
To: All Sierra Madre Fire Safe Council Participants and your neighbors
Fr: Caroline Brown, Public Relations
Re: July 9, 2007 meeting
PLEASE MAKE A PRINTABLE COPY OF THIS E-MAIL AND DISTRIBUTE IT TO YOUR NEIGHBORS--we need to spread the message and need everyone's help!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are working with the Fire Marshall, Rich Snyder, to form Red Flag Fire Patrols to be extra eyes on the ground when RED FLAG alerts are called.
As you know from the television news, these alerts are called when low fuel moisture, high temperatures and hot, dry winds in the canyons and foothills combine to exaggerate the fire danger in our foothills.
You may not be able to devote much time to actually patrolling but your awareness of the problem is nevertheless very helpful.
For information call Mike Kinney: 355-0741.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK WITH YOUR BRUSH CLEARANCE.

Porn In Sierra Madre
Whatis this "All America City" coming too! First the political controversy over measure V, now this!
I am sure that trying to put a stop to this behavior would be considered sensorship, so I sure hope ole man Jimmy, or should I say "dirty" ole man Jimmy, remembers to get his business license!
